MCE Ships 8X SuperDrive Upgrade for MacBook Pro 15-inch and MacBook Systems

IRVINE, CA, February 1, 2008 – MCE Technologies, LLC (MCE), developer of innovative storage products for the Macintosh, today announced a new super-slim slot-loading 8X DVD-Recordable internal SuperDrive upgrade with both DVD+R DL (Double Layer) and DVD-R DL (Dual Layer) support for all Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch and MacBook systems. Designed to replace the original 4X and 6X SuperDrives in these systems, the MCE 8X SuperDrive optical drive was designed specifically to accommodate the slender form factor of the MacBook Pro 15-inch and MacBook. The MCE 8X SuperDrive upgrade for the MacBook Pro 15-inch and MacBook includes all required tools and instructions to perform the upgrade and carries a street price of $199. The MCE 8X SuperDrive upgrade for MacBook Pro 15-inch and MacBook utilizes a drive mechanism only 9.5mm in height compared to standard 12.5mm tall mechanisms. It writes to standard DVD-R and DVD+R media at up to 8X speed, to standard DVD-RW and DVD+RW media at up to 4X speed, as well as to 8.5GB DVD+R Double Layer media and 8.5GB DVD-R Dual Layer media at up to 4X speed. In addition, it writes to standard 650MB (74 minute) and 700MB (80 minute) CD-R media at up to 24X speed, writes to standard CD-RW media at up to 10X speed, reads DVD-ROM discs at up to 8X speed, and reads standard CD-ROM discs at up to 24X speed.

The MCE 8X SuperDrive upgrade with Dual/Double Layer support is bootable and is natively compatible with Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5, as well as Apple’s iTunes, iDVD, Finder Burning, iPhoto, and DVD Player.

The MCE 8X internal SuperDrive upgrade with Dual/Double Layer support is compatible with all MacBook Pro 15-inch and MacBook systems.
