The slot-loading combo drive for PowerBook G3 is supported natively by Finder Burning and the latest version of iTunes under Mac OS X v10.3.x.
Mac OS X v10.2.x
Follow these steps in order to use your slot-loading combo drive for PowerBook G3 with iTunes and Finder Burning under Mac OS X v10.2.x:
- Download the mce24x8123.pkg.sit file and if it does not automatically mount a decompressed file on the desktop, double click the file to unstuff and mount it. The Aladdin Stuffit Expander utility is required to unstuff and mount the file.
- Double-click the "mce24x8123.pkg" file.
- The installer will launch and you will be guided through the straightforward installation process.
Mac OS 9.2.x:
In order to use the slot-loading combo drive for PowerBook G3 with Apples iTunes and Disc Burner software under Mac 9.2.x, you will need to have the latest iTunes software, available from:

the latest Authoring Support Update (1.1.9 at the time of this writing) available from:

and the latest version of Disc Burner (1.0.1 at the time of this writing) available from:

Mac OS 9.2.x automatically includes Disc Burner v1.0.2.
Follow these steps in order to use the slot-loading combo drive for PowerBook G3 with iTunes and Disc Burner under Mac OS 9.2.x.
- Download the MCE8123CDR.sit file and double click to unstuff it if it does not unstuff automatically.
- Drop the "MCE8123CDR" Authoring Support File into the "Authoring Support Files" folder located in the "Extensions" folder within your "System Folder".
- Remove the "MatsushitaCDR" file from the "Authoring Support Files" folder but keep it safely on your hard drive in another location such as a folder on your desktop. (When you next update your system software it is recommended to first go back and replace the "MCE8123CDR" with the "MatsushitaCDR" file.)
- Restart your Mac and you will now be able to use the MCE CD-RW drive with iTunes and Disc Burner.
